A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to keep former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Shendam Branch, Gabriel Nkup Tsenyen, in its custody pending a decision on his proposed fresh arraignment.
Tsenyen, a lawyer and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Plateau State, is facing allegations relating to cyberstalking and incitement to cause a breach of public peace.
The development followed an attempt by the DSS to bring the former NBA branch chairman before the court on a fresh two-count charge.
However, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the matter to August 20, 2026, when the court is expected to determine whether the fresh arraignment is legally proper and whether Tsenyen can be tried again over the allegations.
The court’s decision means Tsenyen will remain in DSS custody until the matter comes up for determination.
The allegations against the lawyer are connected to statements or communications said to have raised concerns over public order, although the court is yet to determine his guilt or otherwise.
As proceedings continue, the August 20 hearing is expected to provide clarity on whether the prosecution can proceed with the fresh charges and what direction the case will take.
The case has attracted attention because of the proposed fresh prosecution of the lawyer, who is also a prominent political figure in Plateau State.
Further proceedings on the matter are expected when the court reconvenes on August 20.
