Why INEC Rejects Claims of Access Code for Gombe-Led ADC Faction

Written by Mary Bassey

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports that it issued a candidate nomination portal access code to the faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Gombe.

The electoral commission clarified that the access code was issued only to the leadership of the party headed by former Senate President, Senator David Mark.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, made the clarification, stating that the commission’s records clearly show that the David Mark-led leadership was granted access to the nomination portal before a recent Court of Appeal judgment affected the party’s state congresses.

Haruna explained that the commission has not issued any separate access code to the Nafiu Gombe-led faction, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters.

The clarification comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC over the control of the party and its nomination process ahead of future elections.

INEC reiterated its commitment to operating in line with the law and maintaining neutrality in handling political party affairs, stressing that all decisions regarding party nominations are guided by its official records and applicable legal provisions.
