Reasons Why Gbajabiamila Urges National Assembly to Give Young Nigerians Stronger Voice in Lawmaking

Written by Mary Bassey

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on the National Assembly to strengthen its engagement with young Nigerians and other key stakeholders to foster inclusive governance and deepen public participation in the legislative process.

Gbajabiamila made the appeal on Tuesday while speaking at the 2026 National Assembly Open Week held in Abuja.

He stressed that an open and transparent legislature is essential for building public trust and ensuring citizens actively participate in Nigeria’s democratic process.

According to him, the National Assembly should continue creating opportunities for Nigerians, particularly young people, to contribute to discussions on policies and legislation that shape the country’s future.

Gbajabiamila noted that citizens deserve a clear understanding of how laws are enacted, how public funds are allocated through the budget, and how legislative oversight helps promote accountability and safeguard the nation’s interests.

> “Citizens should be able to follow how laws are made, understand how public resources are appropriated, and see how legislative oversight protects the national interest,” he said.

He added that sustained engagement between lawmakers and the public would strengthen democratic institutions, improve transparency, and encourage greater civic participation across the country.
