Wise Up Initiative Cross river state render Free Health Care Services During The Calabar Festival 2023

This is to announce to the public the ongoing medical outreach in Calabar, tagged: “Wise up, Stay Safe\” ongoing at the Christmas Village. This is a medical outreach program that is constituted of various medical professionals, health workers and organization volunteers to proffer medical treatment and awareness in the prevalent medical issues of Nigerian citizens.

This service will be due on December 30th, 2023, after the Calabar Festival. The outreach point is located at the left side of the Christmas village in Calabar Municipality, immediately after the entrance.

In an interview with the Commissioner for Health Cross River State, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, in his office with other medical professionals, Dr. Gifty Adicco who is the UNFPA Nigeria resident representative, Dr. Andrew Kirima who is also the UNFPA Cross River Sub Office, Head of office/Programme coordinator, Mr. Oke Nteigbanam; who is the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health/HIV Analyst (ASRH/HIV) UNFPA Cross River Sub Office, and others. He stated that this initiative is here to assist in the immediate medical services during the Calabar Festival 2023 and, as such, to see to the need of educating the people on health issues while treatment, counseling and vaccination are ongoing.
Mr. Oke Nteigbanam applauded the ministry, partners and donors instilling a resonated feeling that they will continue as an organization to support and advocate for better health services to the best of their ability.

Dr. Ayuk assures Cross-riverians that this is the Season of Sweetness, and while we enjoy the festival, our health is one of the key factors to check on. It is why this year\’s carnival has more health care on its schedule of activities within the month. We have ambulances and the carnival health band of our own to tell and showcase to His Excellency what we have been doing.

The Wise Up initiative has come back alive in our dear state where citizens will receive free medical treatment, and thus far, we have been receiving not less than 6000 people coming for these medical services, which are entirely free, services rendered are; Test for Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, Family planning, which comes with free drugs for some categories, and educational interaction.

The Commissioner for Health, Cross River State, who later visited the outreach point at the Christmas village, applauded the Wise up Initiative on their strategic and hardworking activities from what he’s seeing as he interacts with every staff member in each category.

Dr. Ayuk who was impressed by the turn out of people who showed up for the medical services and promised much more services next year with partners. He encouraged the partners and donors to keep on with the burning light of self-less service to people anywhere that they can. He ended that the PEOPLE FIRST AGENDA of the State government on health is in sync with the practices already carried out, and that the government will support an Healthy state.
