The Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) of Yobe State University has received commendation from the National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee following an assessment of the university’s facilities.
The committee described the biomedical research centre as a notable research facility with significant potential to contribute to medical research, training and healthcare development in Nigeria.
The commendation was made on Friday when the committee visited Yobe State University as part of its monitoring and assessment of projects and facilities at the institution.
The delegation, led by the Borno State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Maina Yaumi, inspected several facilities across the university, including the university library, BioRTC, lecture theatres, classrooms and other academic and physical infrastructure.
During the visit, the committee assessed the state of the facilities and their contributions to teaching, research and institutional development.
Particular attention was given to the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre, which provides infrastructure for biomedical research and training.
The committee’s assessment highlighted the importance of strengthening research facilities in Nigerian universities to support innovation, scientific development and solutions to healthcare challenges.
The visit formed part of the committee’s broader responsibility of monitoring the implementation and impact of government-supported development initiatives.
The commendation is expected to further draw attention to the research capacity of Yobe State University and the role of its biomedical centre in advancing scientific research and training in the region.
