The Nigerian Army has commenced its 2026 promotion exercise for 1,115 Warrant Officers and Master Warrant Officers in Rivers State.
The promotion board is being conducted at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area of the state, under the supervision of Headquarters 6 Division, Nigerian Army.
The Chief of Personnel Management (Army), Major General Adewale Adekeye, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing candidates at the venue.
Adekeye urged the personnel to demonstrate professionalism and give their best throughout the exercise, describing the promotion board as an important step in their career development and professional advancement.
He also advised the candidates to participate within the limits of their physical fitness, stressing that their health and wellbeing remained a priority to the Nigerian Army and their families.
The Army said the promotion exercise commenced on September 2 and is expected to run until September 22, 2026.
The assessment includes documentation and certificate screening, medical examinations, physical fitness tests, weapon handling, military drills, computer literacy tests, written examinations and oral interviews.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South-South), Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Everest Okoro, welcomed Adekeye and members of the Promotion Board to the division.
Okoro expressed confidence in the board’s ability to conduct a fair, transparent and credible assessment, urging the candidates to approach the exercise with confidence, discipline and professionalism.
He said the promotion process would provide the personnel with an opportunity to demonstrate their competence, leadership abilities and readiness to take on greater responsibilities.
The GOC also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for approving Headquarters 6 Division as the venue for the exercise.
He noted that promotion should not be viewed merely as an elevation in rank but as an opportunity to accept greater responsibilities and meet higher leadership expectations within the Nigerian Army.
