PRESS BRIEFING: As Guinness world records breaker to start 1st October 2023

Dear Nigerians, my name is Daniel Ehis Aiguokhian. A 300 level student in the department of Philosophy, University of Calabar, Calabar.

I write to you today to bring to the general public my intention and zeal to embark on a journey to set a Guinness World Record for the longest hours of writing fiction and nonfiction stories tagged WRITE-A-THON.

WRITE-A-THON is a writing marathon I hope to attempt for 188 hours which is an equivalent of 8 days. During this period I will have intervals for rest and continue writing until I accomplish the stipulated time.

In addition to this, I am expected to write 16 books with a minimum of 25 pages each, producing 2 books each 24 hours during the period.

My reasons for going on this journey is to show the world the intellectual abilities Nigerians have, and to make the works of writers to be much more appreciated and recognised in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Another reason I want to embark on this journey is to make our leaders invest more in education and promote writers and their works.

Lastly, I am embarking on this journey to encourage and motivate not just young and established writers and authors, but other people who are still doubting their abilities to show them forth. I want to use this activity to help push them out of their comfort zone into achieving their goals in life.

I am confident that I can do this to put Nigeria on a global map as a people who love and support intellectual activities. This is not the first time I am doing this, but it is the first time I am doing it on a global stage for the world to see that anything is possible, only if they are determined to do it.

What makes this a unique one is that, it is the FIRST time someone wants to attempt it and that person is a Nigerian. Unlike BREAKING a record, this is SETTING a record – something that has not been done before in the writing industry. This will bring honour to the nation, and to Africa, particularly, to those in the writing industry.

I am calling on well-meaning Nigerians to support me in this journey. This is not a record for a university of Calabar student, but a record for Nigerians.

Beyond the certificate I will be getting from Guinness World Record if I succeed, this event will bring a good name to the nation and it will change the negative narrative others have about Nigeria to some extent.

I believe this can be achieved through the support of Nigerians. I am an author of 13 published books. And I believe that the experiences I have gotten from the ones I have written and read, will enable me to do this.

The event will kick off on the 1st of October as a way to celebrate our independence as a nation with great history, and it will run through 8th of October, 2023.

To achieve this, we have set some things in place to enable us to send proof of the record to the Guinness World Record. Some of the things we have set in place are listed below.

Generator – to supply lightning.
Writing materials – pen and notebooks.
Videography – to keep a video record of the exercise.
Venue – SUG Senate Chambers, University of Calabar.

Some of the things we are asking Nigerians to support us with are fuel and other things that will help the event run smoothly.

I am hopeful that Nigerians will support this goal in any way they can as one nation.

Thank you very much, and God bless the people of Nigeria and writers who through their written words have impacted lives.
