NANS SENATE MEETING UPDATE: On ASUU,Pre-Convention and Institution Related Issues

NANS SENATE MEETING UPDATE!!!

Yesterday we held our Senate Meeting/Pre-convention to signal the official kickoff of our transition process.

Arising from the Pre-Convention, a convention date has been slated for 25th-28th of August to usher in a new leadership, a leadership that will build on the legacies we have elicited.

We discussed extensively on ASUU, our action plan and the recent hopeful reports on possible suspension of the strike anytime soon arising from our threat. The communique of the Senate Meeting/Pre-Convention shall be released soon.

We also agreed that CBN must close down all bank accounts associated with NANS to enable NANS have a single bank account to reduce impersonation, sharp practices and to encourage unity of control and command, while also ensuring the organisation is autonomous and could generate funds through capitation fees rather than solicitation which continue to weaken the association.

You will recall I promised to leave NANS better than I met it. During this period of our leadership, we\’ve ensured regular Senate Meetings, We have given the association a new constitution, a feat that is unprecedented in the last 40years. We have ensured that majority of proscribed students unions has been reinstated, expelled union leaders recalled, school/hostel fees reduction in many institutions that requested our intervention. I visited over 49 tertiary institutions till date to ensure that NANS is returned to the campus, and we have institutionalize the return of NANS to campus through the constitutional requirements to contest office in NANS in the new constitution.

While we might not be perfect or made few mistakes along the line, we have always been available to our responsibilities, serving no other interest than the interest of the Nigerian students. We have engaged in institutionalized change that will transcend our term.

As we await the communique from the drafting committee, I wish all Senators and Students safe travel back to their various destinations.

I also wish aspirants best of luck as they prepare for the elective convention in August. Note that the venue of the convention hasn\’t been fixed, states interested in the convention can begin to work in preparation to host what promises to be the most organized NANS Convention of recent history.

Thank you very much for all your support for NANS under my leadership. We hope to share good news with you soon on our resumption back to our campuses.

Comr. Asefon Sunday Dayo GCNS
NANS President
