Kidnapped Family Members of Former Daily Trust Editor Released.

 

Gunmen kidnapped three family members of Ahmed Ajobe, a former editor with Daily Trust, in Kogi State on Thursday, the 21st of November.

The kidnapping occurred during preparations for Ajobe’s mother’s funeral rites.

The kidnappers demanded a N50 million ransom.

Gunmen ambushed and kidnapped the victims while they were returning from a market in Awo, Ankpa Local Government Area.

They had gone to buy items for a seven-day prayer.

Gunmen kidnapped the three, one male and two females on Thursday, the 21st of November 2024.

Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir, Ajobe’s immediate younger sister, was among the kidnapped.

The other two victims kidnapped are his younger sister’s son and older sister’s daughter.

The kidnappers abducted five people in total, including three of Ajobe’s family members.

The abductees were made to trek long distances at night through cattle paths until they got to the kidnappers’ base close to Onyagede in Benue State.

The kidnappers reached out on Friday afternoon to demand a N50 million ransom.

Negotiators successfully bargained down the ransom demand, securing a reduced payment of N1 million for each family member.

Police Response and Rescue Efforts to the Abduction.

William Aya, Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi, stated that the police priority is to ensure the safe release of the abducted persons and to arrest the kidnappers.

The police worked with local vigilantes and hunters to comb the bush and rescue the victims.

Even after their release The police are investigating the kidnapping incident.

 

Release of the Kidnapped Family Members of Former Daily Trust Editor Released.

The kidnapped family members regained their freedom on Sunday, the 24th of November, 2024.

Ajobe confirmed that the kidnappers released the victims after receiving the ransom payment.

The kidnappers received at least N3 million before releasing the victims.

The family members are recovering from their traumatic experience.

Ajobe revealed to the press that his younger sister’s son sustained a deep cut on the head and was still in hospital.

His older sister’s daughter was discharged from the hospital on Sunday evening.
