Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, on Wednesday called on President Bola Tinubu to reduce fuel price to N300 per litre. Urging that such a move would help Nigerians celebrate the upcoming festive season with ease.

George emphasized that the government should act promptly, suggesting the price reduction begin by mid-December.

Would Fuel Price Be Reduced?

At a press conference in Lagos, George stated,

“What I am proposing is that, by the 15th or the middle of this month, President Tinubu, if he truly believes in the support Nigerians gave him, it’s time to give back to them. “From mid-December to the end of January, the cost of petrol should be reduced to N300 per litre. The government can absorb the losses, as this would send a message of happiness and positivity across the nation during a period when the economy and families are already under strain.”

He pointed out the importance of December and January.  Noting that these months hold significant cultural and religious importance for Nigerians.

George suggested that such a gesture could foster unity and bring joy to the populace. As the festive season would see an improvement in overall wellbeing.

“So by the end of January, in the meantime, the prayers, the happiness, the impact of that will drive people up. And the Almighty God will answer our prayers. We need this in this December and January to put a smile on the faces of people.

He also mentioned that resources could be used to subsidize fuel costs for the betterment of the masses. Since resources could be allocated for charitable causes, such as the First Lady’s N1 billion donation to a university

Additionally, George commented on the impact of a reduction in fuel price. It would lead to a drop in the cost of goods and services, providing much-needed relief to all Nigerians.

Who is the Minister of Petroleum? So he has a singular effort and if he really looks at these cuts in fuel price across all political parties, all human beings, all Nigerians, he will see the joy in them because the cost of items will crash.”

He also stressed the importance of the Petroleum Minister’s involvement in ensuring that the price reduction benefits the people.
