Abuja – A forensic analyst, Babagana Mingali, testified before a Federal High Court in Abuja that no nude photographs were found in the mobile phones of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the embattled Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), during forensic analysis.
Mingali, who serves at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), appeared as the second defence witness (DW-2) in the ongoing trial where Ndifon faces allegations of sexual harassment brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
During his testimony before Justice James Omotosho, Mingali stated that he received two mobile phones—belonging to Ndifon and his co-defendant, Samuel Anyanwu—for forensic examination. He confirmed that despite employing advanced forensic tools, no nude images, voice recordings, emails, or relevant WhatsApp conversations were retrieved from the devices between January 2021 and January 2024, as the WhatsApp applications were outdated.
The ICPC alleges that Ndifon solicited indecent images from a female student and, alongside Anyanwu, attempted to obstruct justice. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.
Under cross-examination, Mingali acknowledged that while his forensic analysis did not uncover incriminating content, updating the WhatsApp applications on the devices could potentially yield additional data.
Justice Omotosho adjourned the case to April 3 for the continuation of the defence
