A Letter From The NYSC FCT Coordinator To All Assistant Directors, Corps Members Among Others

A LETTER FROM: The FCT Coordinator

TO ALL: Assistant Directors/Zonal/Local Government Inspectors/ CDS Supervisors/ Members of Staff.

SUBJECT: A CALL FOR SENSITIZATION OF ALL CORPS MEMBERS.

CIRCULAR

It has become imperatively necessary to sensitize corps members more often especially as it relates to the proper use of social media and the acceptable way of channelling grievances through the established channels of communication as stipulated by the NYSC Bye Laws.

To this end, you’re all directed on the receipt of this circular to embark on a systematic sensitization of all corps members in the FCT towards forestalling and curbing the negative trend on the misuse of the social media.

Zonal/Local Government Inspectors are further directed to educate their corps members on the ills of taking sensitive issues to the press/ or social media in order to gain momentum or gain public sympathy in expressing their grievances / Sentiments either about the scheme or the Government.

They are to be reminded that the NYSC Bye Laws Section 1 Sub section 11(III)B forbids Corps Members from airing their grievances in any news media or otherwise and in a situation where such is found culpable he/she is liable to the appropriate penalty as prescribed in Schedule 2 Sub sect 6 (d) which recommends Extension of Service for a period to be determined by the National Directorate Headquarters.

Corps Members are to be adequately briefed that according to the same bye laws Schedule 1 Sub sect 12 (b)&(f) which forbids them from forming any organization or group without the prior written consent of the state coordinator or taking part in partisan politics equally attracts strict penalty from the scheme. Schedule 2 Sub sect 6(f) &(j)clearly stipulates the repercussions of these offences.

Furthermore, corps members should note that at the commencement of the national service year, they pledged to uphold the values and unity of this great nation. This oath of Allegiance includes commitment such as loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, non partisan conduct, dedication to service and obedience to constituted authority.
By this oath, they serve the country faithfully regardless of their personal/ political beliefs. This implies corps members are to remain apolitical and focus on the national development without engaging in actions that could disrupt public order or incite political controversy.

The above paragraph alighs with the NYSC Bye Laws Schedule 1 Sub Section 12(g) which states”
No member shall engage in any action detrimental to the image of the scheme.

It is therefore in light of the above that Corps Members should be sensitized on the need to avoid political or sentimental issues which are embarrassing and detrimental to the image of the NYSC Scheme. The scheme over the years have been known for its stance for maintaining sound discipline, building patriotic youths, promoting unity and contributing to the overall development of the country; this legacy should be continually upheld.

May I at this juncture convey the message of the NYSC Management appreciating corps members for their discipline, patience and loyalty to the fatherland assuring them that the 77,000 monthly allowance approved by the Federal Government shall commence with effect from March ,2025 including the 2024 Batch A Stream 2 corps members who are scheduled to pass out on March 27th 2025 as beneficiaries.

Kindly treat every content of this circular with utmost diligence.

Thank you.

Ateli Samson
FCT Coordinator
