The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Tuesday.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the palace, the donation is intended to strengthen the operational capacity of the security network in its efforts to support community safety across parts of the South-West.
The statement was signed by Sodiq Lawal on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs to the Ooni, Moses Olafare.
It described the monarch, who serves as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, as committed to initiatives that promote peace, security and development in Yoruba communities.
The palace stated that the financial support and the vehicle would enhance the mobility and effectiveness of the Iru Ekun Security Network as it carries out its community-based operations.
Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the gesture, describing the support as a significant boost to the activities of the security outfit.
The donation comes amid growing calls for stronger grassroots security initiatives to complement existing security agencies in tackling insecurity across various communities in the region.
