Why Yoruba Union Urges Tinubu to Rescue 176 Kwara Women, Children and 40 Borno Pupils

Written by Mary Bassey

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts to secure the release of 176 women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, as well as 40 schoolchildren still being held captive by terrorists in Borno State.

The group described the continued captivity of the victims as a national tragedy, urging the Federal Government to make their rescue an urgent priority.

In a statement, the council expressed concern over the prolonged ordeal of the abductees, noting that many of the victims are women and children who have remained in terrorist captivity for months under harsh conditions.

The organisation appealed to President Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, deploy additional resources, and intensify ongoing rescue operations to ensure the safe return of all those still in captivity.

The council also urged Nigerians to support the families of the victims through prayers and solidarity while calling on the government to improve security in vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks and mass abductions.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, with stakeholders insisting that every abducted Nigerian deserves equal attention and swift action from the authorities. The Kwara victims were kidnapped during a deadly terrorist attack on Woro community, while dozens of schoolchildren abducted in Borno remain unaccounted for despite ongoing rescue efforts.
