National Council on Health 2025: Governor Otu, Health Minister Discuss Healthcare Advancements

The Cross River State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the state. This was underscored during the National Council on Health meeting between Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, CON, at the Government House in Calabar.

Represented by Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Governor Otu highlighted ongoing healthcare initiatives, including: Revitalization of primary healthcare centers, Establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital in Ikom, Funding of Colleges of Nursing and Health Technology to develop a strong and sustainable health workforce

Prof. Pate emphasized the significance of the 66th National Council on Health (NCH) meeting, noting its role as Nigeria’s highest health policy-making body. He stressed the need for collaboration among governments, agencies, and development partners to achieve national health goals.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including: Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Head of Service, Barr. Orok Okon, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Chief Dr. Emmanuel Ironbar, Members of the State Executive Council, Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, Director General of CRSPHCDA, Dr. Vivian Otu, Special Adviser on Health, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekpo Ekpo, Special Adviser on Nursing Education, Mrs. Uduak Spencer Efem, Special Assistant on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu.

Additionally, the Federal Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Daju Kachollom S. (mni), alongside Cross River Government representatives, received the Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, to join the National Council on Health meeting.
