The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has inaugurated a new Caretaker Executive Committee and Task Force to oversee the affairs of its Eastern Zone, covering Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Calabar, followed the death of the former Zonal Chairman, Chief Larry Nworuh, which created the need for an interim leadership to oversee the association’s affairs and prepare the zone for a substantive election.
16-Member Caretaker Committee Appointed
Representing the National President of IPMAN, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, the National Secretary, Hon. James Terlumun Tor, delivered the inaugural address.
He disclosed that following extensive consultations with stakeholders across the zone, the National Executive of IPMAN approved the appointment of a 16-member Caretaker Committee to administer the affairs of the Eastern Zone for an initial period of three months.
The new committee is headed by Chief Nsikan Ekpe Sunday as Caretaker Chairman.
While congratulating the new leadership, the IPMAN National Secretary charged the committee members to bring their experience, humility and spirit of cooperation to the assignment.
He urged them to work closely with relevant stakeholders and ensure that all members are carried along in order to create an atmosphere conducive for a credible election in the Eastern Zone.
IPMAN Commends Cross River Government
The national leadership of the association also commended the Cross River State Government for providing what it described as a conducive environment for businesses and investments to thrive in Calabar and the state.
IPMAN particularly acknowledged the state’s infrastructure development and security architecture, while appreciating the cooperation extended to petroleum marketers operating in Cross River.
The association also recognised the contributions of security agencies, the Governor’s security team, and the leadership of the depot host community for their support to IPMAN members.
The association appealed for continued cooperation and support for the newly inaugurated caretaker executive, particularly from petroleum marketers, depot community stakeholders and sister unions.
IPMAN stressed that the cooperation of all stakeholders would be crucial to ensuring stability within the Eastern Zone and facilitating a smooth transition to an elected leadership.
The inauguration also featured the formal constitution of the Eastern Zone Task Force, which will work alongside the caretaker executive in carrying out the association’s responsibilities across the zone.
The newly inaugurated leadership is expected to serve for three months and focus on maintaining stability, strengthening stakeholder relations and laying the groundwork for a credible election in the Eastern Zone.
