A Rare Gem in Leadership”: Emmanuel Ojong Appreciates Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong for NDDC Scholarship Support

Emmanuel Effa Ojong, a beneficiary of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Foreign Scholarship Award, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong for his outstanding support toward education and youth development in Cross River State and beyond.

In a statement made available to the press, Ojong, who is currently resuming his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Teesside University, United Kingdom, described the Senator’s intervention as life-changing and transformational.

According to him, the opportunity to study abroad was made possible through the NDDC Foreign Scholarship Scheme, which was graciously facilitated by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.

“This support has not only advanced my academic journey but has also strengthened my determination to contribute meaningfully to the development of our state and nation,” he stated.

Ojong, a graduate of Science Laboratory Technology (Chemical/Petroleum Technology) from the University of Calabar, outlined his academic and leadership background, noting his previous roles as President of the National Association of Akamkpa Students Worldwide, Chairman of the Student Week Committee of the 8th Legacy Senate, Student Union Government presidential aspirant, and pioneer Coordinator of the National Association of Science Laboratory Technology Students, South-South Nigeria.

He also recalled his service during the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), where he served as President of the Servicom Vanguard in camp and President of the Sustainable Development Goals Community Development Service, leading several impactful outreach programmes across schools, industries, and markets.

While reflecting on his journey, Ojong emphasized that his achievements would not be complete without recognizing leaders who prioritize education and youth empowerment.

“Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong is a rare gem and a transformational leader. His investments in human capital will continue to yield lasting benefits for generations,” he said.

He further encouraged young people to align with the Senator’s vision, alongside the Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, in promoting progress, opportunity, and sustainable development.

On behalf of the 2025 NDDC Foreign Scholarship Scholars Forum, Ojong expressed gratitude to the Distinguished Senator for believing in young Nigerians and creating pathways for their dreams to thrive.
