A coalition of youth leaders and grassroots mobilizers from Calabar South, Akpabuyo, and Bakassi has expressed dissatisfaction over what they describe as years of marginalization, calling for a new generation of leadership ahead of upcoming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Sabastine Ekpenyong decried the lack of bursaries, youth empowerment, and skills development programmes in the past three years, noting that the situation has left many young people frustrated. He emphasized the need for a vibrant and responsive leader, announcing Comr. Edem Dominic Bassey as the preferred candidate to represent their interests.
The group maintained that the push for Edem Dominic Bassey is driven by the youth, insisting that political leaders should not impose candidates on them. They also declared support stating that students and youths across the affected areas have collectively chosen their representatives to be Edem Dominic
Adding her voice, the NYCN Bakassi Coordinator, Comr. Sandra, urged stakeholders to respect the will of the people and support credible candidates. She described Edem Dominic Bassey as the most suitable choice to deliver effective representation.
Similarly, Comr. Eyo Nsa from Calabar South reaffirmed the group’s commitment to backing Edem Dominic, citing his potential to deliver empowerment programmes, educational support, and inclusive development.
Also speaking, Eyo Ita Eyo, Youth Chairman of Akpabuyo, highlighted the lack of development in the area, stressing that the people are determined to support a candidate who will prioritize their needs and bring meaningful change.
Inyang Solomon of the National Association of Bakassi Students Worldwide appealed for support for Edem Dominic Bassey, expressing confidence in his ability to effectively represent the constituency at the House of Representatives.
The youth groups concluded by reiterating their demand for inclusive governance and leaders who will prioritize development, empowerment, and accountability.
