The Conglomerate of Kwara State Christian Communities has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the party’s 2027 governorship ticket in Kwara State to a Christian candidate.
The group made the appeal on Monday during a press briefing with members of the State Correspondents’ Chapel in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to the Christian leaders, their demand is rooted in the principles of fairness, equity, inclusion, and balanced political representation, stressing that Christians in the state have consistently contributed to the growth and electoral success of the APC.
They argued that allowing a Christian to emerge as the party’s governorship candidate in 2027 would promote unity, strengthen public confidence in the party, and reflect its commitment to justice and equal opportunities for all religious groups.
The group maintained that its request should not be viewed as an attempt to create religious division but as a legitimate call for inclusiveness in the state’s political leadership.
The Christian leaders further urged President Tinubu and the APC leadership to ensure that the process of selecting the party’s governorship candidate is transparent, fair, and accommodating to all stakeholders.
They expressed confidence that such a decision would foster peaceful coexistence and reinforce the values of democracy and equal representation in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal comes as political consultations and permutations ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum across the country, with various interest groups advocating greater inclusion in the distribution of elective positions.
