UNICAL SUG President Constitutes Five-Member Judiciary Screening Committee

The President of the University of Calabar Students’ Union Government (SUG), Sen. Ebong Vordina Francis, has officially approved the appointment of a five-member Judiciary Screening Committee as part of efforts to strengthen the student union’s judicial arm and ensure a transparent selection process.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary to the SUG President, Comr. Okonkwo Goodluck Olisaemeka. The statement, referenced UCC/SUG/001/026/007, confirmed that the committee has been inaugurated to screen and assess prospective members of the Students’ Union Judiciary in line with the provisions of the SUG Constitution.

According to the statement, the committee is expected to conduct a fair, credible, and merit-based screening exercise, ensuring that only qualified and competent candidates emerge for judicial appointments within the Students’ Union Government.

The Presidency emphasized that the move reflects its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in student governance. It also urged members of the university community and all applicants to cooperate fully with the committee throughout the screening process.

Further details, including the identities of the committee members, screening timetable, venue, and other relevant guidelines, are expected to be communicated through official SUG channels.
