The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 89 motorists for violating regulations on vehicle registration number plates as part of an ongoing enforcement exercise ordered by the Inspector-General of Police.
The operation targets vehicles without registration number plates, those displaying concealed or covered plates, and others using defaced or improperly fixed number plates. According to the police, such violations undermine effective policing, hinder criminal investigations, and pose significant threats to public safety and national security.
The command said the enforcement exercise is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening security and ensuring that all vehicles on Nigerian roads can be properly identified and traced when necessary.
Police authorities warned motorists against driving vehicles without valid registration plates or deliberately obscuring their number plates to evade identification, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ogun State Police Command urged vehicle owners to comply with all registration requirements and cooperate with security agencies, noting that adherence to traffic and vehicle identification regulations is essential to combating crime and improving public safety across the state.
