The Yobe State Police Command has urged residents not to panic if they hear gunshots on Tuesday, assuring the public that the sounds are part of an official firearms training exercise.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Dungus Abdulkarim, the police said the live-fire exercise is being conducted at the State Shooting Range as part of an ongoing retraining programme for officers.
According to the Command, the exercise is designed to improve the operational readiness, professionalism, and tactical skills of police personnel. It added that the training forms part of efforts to strengthen standard policing procedures and enhance the capacity of officers to respond effectively to security challenges across the state.
The police appealed to residents living around the training area and other members of the public to remain calm, noting that the gunshots are strictly from a controlled training exercise and do not pose any threat to public safety.
The Command also thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property through continuous capacity building and improved policing standards.
