The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended 19 students over alleged examination misconduct following the approval of recommendations made by the institution’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
The decision was ratified by the university’s Senate after considering the committee’s report on cases of alleged examination malpractice involving the affected students.
According to the university, the suspended students will serve the disciplinary sanction and are expected to resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Head of Public Relations, Effiong Eyo, confirmed the development, noting that the disciplinary action is part of the university’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and upholding its standards of excellence.
The affected students are drawn from several faculties, including Administration, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts, Education, Allied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Environmental Sciences.
Others are from departments such as Nursing Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Science Laboratory Technology, Estate Management, Marketing, and other related academic programmes.
The suspension was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Director of Administration, Dr. Citizen Ekpo, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha.
The university reiterated its resolve to enforce its academic regulations and urged students to adhere strictly to examination guidelines to avoid disciplinary measures.
