The Governing Council of the University of Calabar has warned all staff, particularly academic staff, to sit up or face disciplinary sanctions for negligence of duty. In a memo issued by University Registrar Dr. Mrs. Chukwuka I. Icha after the 173rd Council meeting on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Council expressed deep concern over the “nonchalant attitude” of some staff towards official responsibilities. The trend, it said, is unacceptable and undermines the smooth running of the institution.
Council reminded staff that Section 5.7 of the University’s Conditions of Service clearly stipulates sanctions for misconduct and any act capable of disrupting administration. It reiterated that every staff member is expected to discharge duties diligently and in line with established regulations.

Consequently, staff have been urged to demonstrate greater commitment, as Council resolved not to hesitate in applying appropriate disciplinary measures against anyone found wanting.
