See Why Lagos Authorities Arrested a 56-Year-Old Man in Ikorodu

Written by Mary Bassey

The Lagos State Government has arrested a 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The arrest was made at No. 18 Oluoga Street, Ikorodu, as part of the government’s ongoing enforcement of environmental sanitation laws aimed at preventing flooding and maintaining a cleaner environment.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday. He reiterated that indiscriminate waste disposal into drains and canals is a punishable offence under Lagos State environmental regulations.

According to Wahab, the state government will continue to enforce environmental laws and prosecute offenders to discourage actions that obstruct drainage channels and contribute to flooding, especially during the rainy season.

He also urged residents to dispose of their waste through approved waste management channels and support the government’s efforts to keep Lagos clean and flood-free.

The commissioner warned that anyone caught violating environmental laws would face the full weight of the law, stressing that environmental responsibility is a collective duty.
