Will ADC Survive? Appeal Court Set to Decide Fate of Five Political Parties

Written by Mary Bassey

LThe Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment in separate appeals filed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties challenging a Federal High Court ruling that ordered their deregistration.

A three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Abba Bello Mohammed, announced on Tuesday that the judgment date would be communicated to all parties after lawyers representing the appellants and respondents adopted their written briefs.

The political parties involved in the appeals are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The appeals seek to overturn the Federal High Court’s decision, which directed the deregistration of the parties following legal proceedings over their status.

With the hearing now concluded, the parties will await the Court of Appeal’s final verdict, which could determine whether the affected political parties retain their legal recognition or remain deregistered.

The outcome of the case is expected to have significant implications for Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as political parties continue preparations for future elections.
