The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Offiong Efanga Offiong, has declared that accreditation remains non-negotiable, stressing that the institution will not compromise on academic quality.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Linkages and Collaborations), Professor Anthony Eneji, the Vice Chancellor made the remark during the College of Education Annual Lecture Series themed “Accreditation for University Programmes.”
He described accreditation as a key pillar of quality education, urging lecturers and academic units to ensure every programme continues to meet the standards of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The Provost of the College of Education, Professor John Undie, said accreditation has become a mark of excellence that drives curriculum improvement, staff development, and better learning facilities for students.
Delivering the keynote address, NUC Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Lucas Chundusu, noted that accreditation is essential for validating the quality of academic programmes and the credibility of graduates’ certificates.
Participants at the lecture commended the University for creating a platform to deepen discussions on quality assurance, describing the initiative as a step towards strengthening academic standards across all faculties.
The event ended with an interactive session where participants discussed ways to strengthen quality assurance and sustain accreditation standards across the University.
