UNICAL Suspends Admission Into Medicine, Dentistry, and Medical lab science for 2026/2027 Session

Written by calabarGist

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced the suspension of admissions into three major health-related programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

In a public notice issued by the University’s Public Relations Unit, the institution disclosed that Medicine and Surgery, Medical Laboratory Science, and Dentistry will not admit new students for the upcoming academic session.

UNICAL Advises Candidates to Change Institution

The Registrar of the University, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka I. Icha, advised all candidates who selected UNICAL as their first-choice institution for any of the affected programmes to immediately visit the nearest Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office to process a change of institution.

According to the Registrar, the deadline for completing the change of institution process is the end of July 2026.

Three Other Universities Also Affected

The University Management clarified that UNICAL is not the only institution affected by the development, noting that three other universities are also facing similar restrictions.

Although the institution did not state the specific reason for the suspension, it urged prospective students and members of the public to rely only on official communications.

Candidates Warned Against Fake Information

UNICAL further cautioned candidates against relying on unverified reports and misinformation circulating on social media concerning the suspension.

The University advised applicants to follow only official updates from the institution and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding admission processes.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to act promptly to avoid missing the July deadline for changing their institution of choice.
