How UNICROSS VC Is Transforming the University Through Strategic Leadership

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has paid an official courtesy visit to the Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Prof. Stephen Odey, to strengthen collaboration between the University and the Ministry of Education ahead of the new academic session.

The strategic meeting, held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Commissioner’s office in Calabar, provided an opportunity for the Vice Chancellor to brief the Ministry on key institutional milestones, ongoing reforms, and preparations for the forthcoming academic session.

UNICROSS Reviews Academic Progress

During the meeting, Prof. Bassey presented a comprehensive update on the successful conclusion of the current semester and the University’s readiness for the next academic session following recent adjustments to the academic calendar.

She also highlighted ongoing efforts by the institution to maintain academic excellence while ensuring the timely implementation of approved academic programmes.

Updates on NUC Approvals and Regulatory Compliance

The Vice Chancellor informed the Commissioner about reports submitted to relevant regulatory bodies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC), as well as approvals received from the University’s statutory committees.

She reaffirmed UNICROSS’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and complying with national regulatory requirements.

UNICROSS Expands International Partnerships

Prof. Bassey also disclosed that the University has continued to strengthen its global outlook through the establishment of new international partnerships aimed at promoting academic exchange, research collaboration, staff development, and institutional growth.

According to her, these collaborations will create more opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff while enhancing the University’s global competitiveness.

Commissioner Commends UNICROSS Management

The Commissioner for Education, Senator Prof. Stephen Odey, warmly received the Vice Chancellor and her delegation alongside senior officials of the Ministry.

He commended the UNICROSS management for its purposeful leadership, strategic direction, and commitment to repositioning the institution for academic excellence.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the University’s progress and reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support for initiatives that will enhance higher education in Cross River State.
