Lionel Messi once offered an emotional insight into his relationship with his father, Jorge Messi, recalling the sacrifices his dad made while working tirelessly to support the family.
Speaking about his childhood, the football icon revealed that his father would regularly wake up as early as 4 a.m. and return home around 9 p.m., leaving the pair with limited time together.
“My dad used to wake up at 4 in the morning and come home at 9 at night just to have dinner, every day.”
“We rarely saw each other,” Messi explained, adding that Jorge always cherished the moments he had with his son.
According to Messi, his father was never harsh with him despite the pressures of everyday life. Instead, those limited moments together were filled with affection and appreciation.
“He never yelled at me or gave me a hard time. It never ever happened,” Messi recalled.
Messi explained that he genuinely looked forward to seeing Jorge return home each day.
“I enjoyed being with him so much because I missed him,” he said.
“I couldn’t wait for him to get home so I could hug him and be around him, because the truth is he spent all his time working.”
