JAMB warns candidates: One small mistake could affect your admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned prospective candidates against making avoidable mistakes while creating their profiles for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration.

The Board warned that errors made at the profile-creation stage could create difficulties for candidates during registration and subsequent admission processes.

JAMB issued the warning in a new advisory video released under its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.

The advisory, directed at fresh candidates, highlighted the importance of ensuring that personal information supplied during profile creation is accurate and consistent with the candidate’s records with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

According to the Board’s 2026 registration guidelines, candidates should carefully verify their biodata, particularly their names and dates of birth, before completing the registration process. JAMB stated that once registration is completed with biodata supplied by NIMC, subsequent changes to such information will not be accepted for the 2026 admission exercise.

The Board also explained that where a candidate has previously changed data with NIMC, the updated information can only be reflected on an existing JAMB record through the prescribed re-query process during registration. The replaced information will still be tracked and reflected as a footnote on the candidate’s profile and examination slips.

JAMB therefore advised prospective candidates to confirm their details with NIMC before creating their profiles and to ensure that the phone number used for the process is properly linked to them.

The Board further urged candidates to keep their profile codes and login details secure and avoid allowing third parties to conduct transactions on their profiles.

The warning is particularly important for first-time candidates, as mistakes made at the beginning of the registration process may lead to complications that could affect subsequent JAMB services and admission-related processes.
