The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, has called for stronger cooperation among security agencies, government institutions and local communities to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security threats in Nigeria’s North-West.
Ajayi made the call on Thursday in Katsina during the second North-West Zonal Conference of State Directors of Security, organised by the DSS under the theme, “Unite Against Terror.”
Represented by the Chairman of the North-West Forum of State Directors of Security and Kano State Director of Security, Husseini Abubakar, the DSS Director-General said the conference was an opportunity for security stakeholders to assess the changing security situation in the region.
He said participants would also share operational experiences and develop practical strategies to strengthen efforts against terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.
Ajayi stressed the importance of collaboration among security agencies and other stakeholders, noting that the region’s security challenges require a coordinated response rather than isolated efforts.
He further emphasised the need for government institutions and communities to play active roles in supporting security operations and providing relevant information that could assist authorities in preventing and responding to threats.
The conference brought together state security directors and other stakeholders to deliberate on emerging security challenges affecting the North-West and explore ways to improve intelligence sharing, coordination and security operations across the region.
The call comes amid continued security concerns in parts of the North-West, where terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities have remained major challenges.
Ajayi urged stakeholders to remain united and committed to protecting lives and property while working towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
