The Anambra State Police Command has introduced a new monitoring mechanism to supervise police checkpoints, patrol teams and other operational activities across the state.
The initiative, introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, is designed to strengthen accountability and curb alleged extortion, harassment and other forms of misconduct by police personnel.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Ikenga, the decision followed feedback received by the commissioner during his recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions held across the state’s three senatorial districts.
He said the new monitoring system would operate through the command’s operational control rooms, allowing police authorities to closely monitor activities at checkpoints and during patrol operations.
The command said the measure was part of efforts to promote effective policing, professionalism and respect for the rights of members of the public.
Ikenga added that the initiative would help identify and address misconduct by personnel while improving public confidence in the police.
The command urged residents to cooperate with police officers carrying out legitimate duties and to report cases of extortion, harassment or other unprofessional conduct through the appropriate channels.
The development comes as the Anambra Police Command intensifies efforts to improve its relationship with residents and strengthen security operations across the state.
