Adeleke Reacts to Oyebamiji’s Latest Move After Osun Poll

Written by Mary Bassey

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for advocating peace in the state following the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke described Oyebamiji’s call for peace as a welcome development after weeks of intense political campaigns and tension surrounding the election.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this in a statement issued in Osogbo on Friday.

According to Rasheed, Adeleke said the peace advocacy by the APC candidate was a positive step towards restoring calm and unity among residents of the state.

The governor noted that the people of Osun had experienced considerable political tension during the weeks leading to the election, making calls for peace important for the state’s stability and development.

Adeleke had earlier visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, where he presented his Certificate of Return following his victory in the governorship election.

The governor defeated Oyebamiji and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, in the closely contested poll.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11.

The governor’s latest remarks signal a possible shift towards reconciliation after a highly competitive election, with attention now turning to efforts to unite political stakeholders and move the state forward.
