The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate allegedly operating around the Alakuko area of the state.
The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Faruk Rasheed, 28-year-old Olamilekan Ademola and 21-year-old Abidemi Oluwawemo.
The arrests followed what the police described as credible intelligence concerning the activities of the suspected criminal network.
According to the command, operatives tracked the suspects to Alakuko, where they were subsequently arrested.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the suspects allegedly specialised in car snatching and robbing motorists and other members of the public of their valuables.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of three locally made firearms and eight rounds of live ammunition.
The recovered weapons included two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and a locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while the command said efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and improving security across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the police.
The command said further investigation would help establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in carjacking and armed robbery activities.
