The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered an alleged case of diversion and illegal sale of service rifles involving some of its personnel.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of the corps on Friday in Abuja.
Afolabi said the investigation, conducted by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad, led to the arrest of a personnel at the NSCDC headquarters over alleged involvement in the illegal activities.
He explained that the suspect was arrested after intelligence gathered by the squad pointed to his alleged complicity in the diversion and sale of service rifles.
The NSCDC spokesperson said the investigation was being handled by the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, headed by Commander Dandaura Appollos.
He added that the development formed part of ongoing efforts by the corps to identify and sanction personnel involved in activities capable of compromising its operations and public trust.
The NSCDC said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged diversion and identify other individuals who may have been involved.
The corps reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and accountability among its personnel, particularly in the handling and management of government-issued arms and other operational equipment.
