NMA Raises Fresh Concern Over LAUTECH Doctors’ Welfare

Written by Mary Bassey

The Nigerian Medical Association has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently intervene in the outstanding salary arrears and welfare concerns affecting resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

The NMA made the appeal in a letter dated September 5, 2026, signed by its President, Dr Afekhide Omoti.

The association expressed deep concern over what it described as persistent welfare challenges confronting members of the Association of Resident Doctors at the teaching hospital.

The NMA urged the Oyo State Government to take immediate steps to resolve the outstanding financial obligations and other concerns affecting the doctors, warning that prolonged welfare challenges could further affect the morale of medical personnel and healthcare delivery.

The association’s latest appeal comes amid longstanding concerns over the working conditions and remuneration of health workers at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

In December 2025, Governor Makinde had approved the payment of minimum-wage arrears and other outstanding entitlements owed to workers at the teaching hospital, while also inaugurating a governing board for the institution.

However, concerns over staffing, remuneration and working conditions at the hospital have continued to attract the attention of the medical community.

The NMA has previously raised concerns over the shortage of doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, noting that the number of doctors at the facility had fallen significantly from previous levels.

The association is now calling for urgent action to address the outstanding issues affecting resident doctors and strengthen the welfare system at the hospital.

The development comes as stakeholders continue to stress the importance of improving the working environment for doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective healthcare delivery in Oyo State.
