Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, has urged Christians to remain faithful in paying their tithes during the Christmas season, warning against prioritising festive shopping over their religious commitments.
The cleric’s reported warning about buying Christmas clothes without paying tithes has drawn attention to his teachings on financial giving and Christian obligations during the festive period.
In a previous Christmas-season sermon, Ibiyeomie cautioned church members against diverting money meant for tithes to expenses such as clothes, shoes, travel and other festive purchases.
According to reports, he argued that some Christians spend heavily during the festive season and later struggle with financial responsibilities, including rent and school fees, when the new year begins.
He also emphasised the importance of paying tithes consistently, linking the practice to his teachings on faith, divine protection and financial prosperity.
Ibiyeomie, who leads Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has repeatedly spoken about the importance of tithing in Christian life.
