Written by Mary Bassey

A police corporal has reportedly shot dead his girlfriend, a fellow police officer, before taking his own life in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, involving officers attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command.

The officers were identified in media reports as Corporal Amos and Woman Corporal Grace. Preliminary accounts alleged that Amos left his assigned night-duty post before going to Grace’s quarters, where the fatal shooting reportedly occurred.

Reports further alleged that the officer used an AK-47 rifle in the incident before turning the weapon on himself.

Relationship Dispute Allegedly Preceded Incident

According to a source cited in media reports, the officers had reportedly been in a relationship for several years, but their relationship allegedly became strained in recent months amid trust issues and accusations of infidelity.

The source also claimed that their disagreements had escalated into physical confrontations and threats, allegedly prompting intervention by their superiors.

However, these claims have not been independently verified, and the exact circumstances that led to the incident remain unclear.

Police Yet to Officially Confirm Details

As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the incident or providing a detailed account of what happened.

Media reports indicated that the bodies had been deposited at a mortuary, while further details surrounding the deaths remained unclear.

The incident has raised questions about the events leading up to the shooting, including the officer’s reported departure from his duty post and the circumstances surrounding the use of his service rifle.

Further details are expected as the authorities establish the facts surrounding the incident.
