Former Katsina South Senator, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62, leaving behind a notable record of public service at both the state and federal levels.
Mandiya died in Abuja on Monday, September 7, 2026, according to the Katsina State Government. His death was confirmed by Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda.
Governor Radda expressed shock and sadness over the development, describing the former lawmaker’s death as a major loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.
“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” Radda said.
Before his election to the Senate, Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, from 2015 to 2019.
He was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Katsina South Senatorial District in 2019 and served in the Ninth National Assembly until 2023. During his time in the Senate, he chaired the Senate Committee on Water Resources.
Radda described Mandiya as a committed public servant whose contributions to Katsina State and Nigeria would be remembered.
The governor extended his condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Governor Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and former colleagues in the National Assembly.
The cause of death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of reporting. Reports also indicate that funeral prayers for the former senator are scheduled to take place in Abuja on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Governor Radda prayed for the forgiveness of Mandiya’s shortcomings, the acceptance of his good deeds and for strength for his family and loved ones to bear the loss.
