The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial burglar and recovered photographic equipment and other valuables worth more than N21 million allegedly stolen from photo studios across the state.
The arrest followed a petition received by the command on September 3, 2026, from a photographer identified as Aniekan, who reported that his photo studio had been burgled by unknown individuals.
According to the complainant, the suspects gained entry into the studio through the roof and made away with photographic equipment and other valuable items.
The command said detectives commenced an investigation following the complaint, which eventually led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in a series of burglaries targeting photo studios.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
John said the investigation also led to the recovery of photographic equipment and other valuables with an estimated value of over N21 million.
The recovered items are believed to have been stolen during previous burglary operations, although the police said investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities.
The command said efforts are continuing to identify other possible victims and determine whether the suspect worked with accomplices.
The police also urged members of the public who may have lost photographic equipment or other valuables during similar incidents to contact the command and assist investigators with relevant information.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
