Oden Ewa Mourns Passing of Eka Williams Abang, Describes Him as ‘A Gem’ in Cross River Central
The APC candidate for Cross River Central Senatorial District, Hon. Oden Ewa, has expressed deep sadness over the death of his friend, brother and former colleague, Hon. Prince Eka Williams Abang, popularly known as “Submarine.”
In a tribute, Ewa described Abang as a man of warmth, humility and uncommon commitment who made significant contributions to public service and the development of Cross River State.
He also described the deceased as a loving husband and father, dependable friend, dedicated public servant and a worthy son of Ikom and Cross River Central.

‘Our Relationship Went Beyond Politics’
According to Ewa, his relationship with Abang extended beyond politics, noting that they were initially business associates and friends before becoming colleagues in the State Executive Council.
Ewa recalled working closely with Abang, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, on key legislative initiatives including the Electricity Regulatory Bill, Cross River Green Economic Commission Bill and Council on Climate Change Bill.
He said Abang brought passion, humility and dedication to the responsibilities entrusted to him and contributed to efforts aimed at building a better Cross River State.
Ewa Recalls Abang’s Final Hours
Ewa said the circumstances surrounding Abang’s death have made the loss particularly painful because he spent the deceased’s final hours with him.
He recalled that they were together with friends and associates on Friday night before travelling together from Calabar to Abuja on Saturday morning.
“I could never have imagined that those would be our final moments together,” Ewa said, reflecting on the unpredictability of life.
‘Cross River Central Has Lost a Gem’
Mourning the deceased, Ewa said the loss would be deeply felt across the senatorial district and beyond.
“Cross River Central has lost a gem. Ikom has lost a worthy son. And I have lost a dependable friend and brother.”
He extended his condolences and prayers to Abang’s wife, children, family members, friends and all those affected by his death.
Ewa prayed for God to grant the bereaved family and mourners the strength to bear the loss, while asking that the soul of Hon. Prince Eka Williams Abang rest in perfect peace.
