The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, in connection with a viral video allegedly showing suspected cult members firing shots from a moving vehicle within the Calabar metropolis.

The arrest followed the circulation of the video, which the police said is believed to have been recorded during the early hours of September 17, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, had directed the immediate identification and arrest of those allegedly involved in the incident.
Police Launch Intelligence-Led Operation
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, and operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) commenced an intelligence-led operation at about 11:30 p.m. on September 17.
The operation reportedly led to the identification and tracking of the vehicle captured in the viral footage.
The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested, while information obtained during the operation assisted the police in tracing another key suspect to a hotel in Calabar, where he was arrested.
Suspect Allegedly Identifies as Vikings Confraternity Leader
The police identified the key suspect as Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, a 24-year-old student of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS).
According to the police, the suspect allegedly identified himself during questioning as a leader of the Vikings Confraternity and allegedly admitted to being the individual seen firing shots in the viral video.
The Command stressed that the information forms part of an ongoing investigation.
Suspect Allegedly Links Shooting to UNICROSS Sign-Out
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he participated in a sign-out activity on the day of the incident.
He also allegedly stated that the pistol purportedly used in the video was handed to him by another suspected member of the group.
The police said efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly connected with the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and the movement of the vehicle are also being investigated.
Police Intensify Manhunt for Accomplices
CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and comprehensively, with anyone found to have participated in or facilitated the alleged act brought before the law.
The Command described the alleged unlawful discharge of firearms in public places as a serious security concern and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements, possession of firearms and cult-related activities to the police.
The Police Command said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
