Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has spoken about the silence of some of his former colleagues, friends and family members amid the challenges he is currently facing, saying he bears no resentment toward those who have chosen not to stand by him.
El-Rufai made his position known in a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath”, dated September 23, 2026, and shared on his social media accounts.
The former governor said his decision to support people and causes over the years was guided by his Islamic faith, personal values, upbringing and conscience, rather than expectations of gratitude or reciprocity.
He acknowledged that some people he had previously supported might choose to speak out, remain silent, distance themselves from him or even deny their past relationships.
According to him, everyone is entitled to make their own choices, adding that he does not wish to judge people simply because their response to his present circumstances differs from what he or others might have expected.
El-Rufai said the difficulties he has experienced in recent months had also given him an opportunity to reflect on some of his relationships.
He, however, stressed that such reflection should not be interpreted as condemnation, saying adversity can reveal aspects of relationships that may not have been obvious during easier times.
The former governor further stated that he had no regrets about standing by people or causes whenever he believed it was the right thing to do.
He said he would not seek revenge or retribution over any perceived injustice, ingratitude or injury, leaving ultimate judgment to Almighty Allah.
El-Rufai concluded by saying that his priority was to remain at peace with his conscience and his faith, regardless of how others respond to his current situation.
The statement comes as El-Rufai continues to face legal proceedings and allegations arising from investigations into his time in office. He has denied wrongdoing and maintained his position in the ongoing cases.
