A Ghanaian cleric, Prophet John Papa Jesus, has announced a new minimum offering of GH₵50 for members of his church, saying the decision was influenced by the recent increase in transport fares.
The prophet made the announcement in a video shared on X on Monday, September 28, 2026.
According to him, he had increased the church’s offering expectation by 20 per cent and would no longer accept offerings below GH₵50.
“I’ve increased the church offering rate to 20%. I will accept only offerings of GH₵50 and above,” he said.
Explaining the reason behind the decision, Prophet John Papa Jesus linked the new offering requirement to the reported increase in transport fares.
“I’m not the same as Mahama, so I will increase my offering by 20%. Because transport fares have been increased by 8%,” he said.
He further stated that members would be expected to comply with the new minimum, stressing that offerings below GH₵50 would not be accepted.
The announcement has attracted attention online, with the prophet’s comments drawing reactions over the connection he made between rising transportation costs and church offerings.
