The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, Dr Bala-Bello Tinka, has promised to provide free fuel for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators if elected governor in the 2027 general elections.
Tinka made the promise during an interview with a local radio station in Gombe on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as political activities intensify ahead of the next governorship election.
The proposed initiative is aimed at supporting commercial transport operators, popularly known as okada and keke riders, who depend on daily earnings to sustain their businesses and families.
The promise comes amid ongoing concerns over the rising cost of petrol and its impact on transportation fares, operating expenses and the livelihoods of Nigerians.
Commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators play a significant role in providing transportation, particularly in areas where conventional public transport services are limited.
Tinka’s pledge has introduced fuel support for transport workers into the growing conversation about economic relief and welfare policies ahead of the 2027 Gombe governorship election.
However, details regarding how the proposed free-fuel scheme would be funded, implemented and sustained have yet to be publicly established.
The ADC candidate is expected to face other political contenders as parties prepare for the 2027 polls, with economic development, job creation, infrastructure and the cost of living likely to remain key issues in the campaigns.
Tinka’s promise adds to the policy proposals emerging from politicians seeking the support of voters in Gombe State.
