Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, has approved an increase in undergraduate registration charges for the 2026/2027 academic session, with Nigerian students expected to pay between ₦143,000 and ₦298,000, depending on their programme and level of study.
The revised charges were approved by the university’s Governing Council at its 218th special meeting held on September 29, 2026, following a resolution by the University Senate.
According to reports, the new fee structure represents a significant increase from the previous charges of between ₦62,000 and ₦84,000 paid by students during the 2025/2026 academic session.
New Fees to Vary by Programme
Under the revised arrangement, the amount payable will differ according to students’ faculties, courses and levels of study.
The university has also established different charges for Nigerian students, non-Nigerian residents and international students who are not resident in Nigeria.
For example, students in the Faculty of Administration will pay different amounts depending on their academic levels, while those in specialised programmes, including Nursing Science, face higher charges.
The revised schedule is expected to affect students preparing for registration in the new academic session.
Students Advised to Check University Portal
The university’s management is expected to make the full details of the approved charges available through students’ portals, allowing undergraduates to confirm the amounts applicable to their respective programmes.
Students are advised to consult the university’s official communication channels and verify their individual fee schedules before making payments.
The increase comes amid ongoing concerns about the rising cost of university education in Nigeria and the financial pressure faced by students and their families.
ABU is one of Nigeria’s major public universities, with its main campus located in Zaria, Kaduna State.
