A woman has sparked debate online after criticising feminism, describing it as a threat to the younger generation and arguing that some feminist beliefs conflict with traditional African values surrounding marriage, motherhood and gender roles.
The woman made the remarks during a trending episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, hosted by Glitch Africa Studios, where she questioned the growing influence of feminism on how young women approach relationships and family life.
According to her, feminism has influenced some women to reject traditional expectations, including childbirth and domestic responsibilities, while challenging how men address them in relationships.
“Feminism, honestly speaking, is destroying our generation. It has gotten into their head,” she said.
She further argued that feminism was not part of African culture, describing some of its ideas as imported beliefs that conflict with traditional values.
“This is not our culture, for goodness’ sake. We’ve imported demonic ideas,” she added, urging feminists to reconsider their positions before questioning the demand for equal rights.
The woman also criticised women who refuse to cook or wash for their partners, arguing that some have become unwilling to take on domestic responsibilities within relationships.
“If you are marrying me, I can’t cook. I can’t wash. That’s me. I can’t,” she said, while expressing her disapproval of what she described as an unwillingness to contribute to household responsibilities.
She also defended traditional views on virginity, describing it as a source of pride. She stated that her husband was her first sexual partner and the father of her children.
Her comments came during a discussion with a younger woman who challenged her views, highlighting the generational differences in how people understand feminism, equality, marriage and traditional gender expectations.
The exchange has drawn attention to ongoing conversations about the place of feminism in African society, particularly regarding women’s rights, personal choices, family responsibilities and expectations within marriage.
