Nigeria’s Power Generation Crashes From 3,840MW to Just 476MW

Written by Mary Bassey

Nigeria’s electricity generation reportedly dropped sharply from 3,840 megawatts (MW) at 7am to just 476.70MW by 1pm, raising concerns over power supply across the country.

The reported decline represents a drop of about 87.6 per cent within six hours, potentially worsening electricity shortages for households and businesses that depend on the national grid.

The development could affect electricity distribution to homes, offices, industries and small businesses, particularly in areas already experiencing irregular power supply.

However, the specific cause of the reported drop was not immediately established. Possible factors behind power generation challenges in Nigeria include gas supply constraints, technical faults at generating plants and disruptions affecting electricity infrastructure.

Nigeria has continued to face challenges in delivering stable electricity to consumers, with fluctuations in generation often affecting the amount of power available for distribution across the country.

Further clarification from relevant power sector authorities would be needed to establish the cause of the reported decline and its impact on electricity supply nationwide.
