Aitana Bonmati Named FIFA Best Women’s Player for Second Year

Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati has been named the FIFA Best Women’s Player for the second year in a row. This award adds to her impressive achievements, which includes two Ballon d’Or trophies.

In her acceptance speech via video link from Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium, Bonmati said, “I’m grateful and proud to receive this award.”

Bonmati had an outstanding season, leading Barcelona to a historic quadruple of titles in club football. In the 2023/24 season, she won every possible trophy:

  • Spanish League
  • Copa de la Reina
  • Supercopa de España
  • Women’s Champions League (for the second year in a row).

In the Champions League final, Bonmati delivered a standout performance. She scored a goal and was named player of the match as Barcelona defeated Lyon 2-0, securing their third Champions League title in four seasons.

Aitana also shined on the international stage, helping Spain win the Nations League, further proving her status as one of the best players in the world.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Argentine forward, Alejandro Garnacho, won the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year. Garnacho’s stunning bicycle kick against Everton in the Premier League earned him the prestigious honor.

Both Aitanai and Garnacho’s achievements highlight an incredible year in football, celebrating skill, dedication, and unforgettable performances.
